Clean Air is one of the elemental rights of human life. With increasing Industrial activities, access to toxic and pollutant free air is an onerous escalating issue. The yardsticks which determine the Air Quality Index (AQI) leaves such Industries heavily restricted.
The Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are hazardous air pollutants created as a result of heavy production activities that incorporate organic raw material. One of the huge environmental threats to Global Warming, they are also toxic for humans and lead to severe health complications if trapped indoors. Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) impose lesser risk when compared to VOCs but equally detrimental to human health and environment. This is where Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers or RTOs come as a solution.
RTO is designed on the theory of Thermal Oxidation; it decomposes hazardous gases at a high temperature and releases them into the atmosphere. The temperature inside the unit is raised and brought up to combustion as high as 1100 °C using supplemental fuel such as natural gas, propane or bio-fuel. A specially designed ceramic bed is heated from this oxidation cycle to preheat the input gases to partially oxidize them. At such high temperatures, more than 99% of the VOCs stand converted to Co2 and water vapor.

RTOs can be designed to treat a vast range of volumes from medium to dense solvent concentrations, depending on industry type and demand.
- Low Operating and Maintenance Cost:
The RTOs are more durable and carry a low operating cost in contrast to other Emission control technologies. No metal expansion issues and ideal for continuous operating plants.
- High Thermal Efficiency:
Under best conditions, the RTO is capable of regaining as much as 97% of heat energy. Utilising the VOC as its only source of fuel, the RTO unit can sustain combustion temperatures without pumping any auxillary fuel.
- Minimum Waste Generation:
The RTO unit captures up to 95% of the heat prior to releasing clean hot air it into the atmosphere. The technology delivers low operating costs for high air flow and low VOC fume outflux.
- Waste Heat Recovery:
Utilisation of the waste heat generated is one of the most important concerns of Industries. The very high heat generated can be recovered by various means while using a RTO.
